New 2-Colt Format Announced for Road to the Horse 2023

Since 2003, Road to the Horse has positioned itself as the industry’s most distinguished colt starting challenge. Creativity and innovation have been key components to the continued success of the event. With that in mind, the colt starting action at Road to the Horse 2023 will not disappoint as fans will see a shift in the traditional format when competitors select two colts from the remuda, as they begin the competition which spans March 23-26 at the Kentucky Horse Park.

“Wild Cards, World Champions, and a selection of the finest colts from the 6666 Ranch, are all key ingredients for an unbelievable experience,” states Morris Equine Group President Tina Battock. “Watching these master horsemen navigate two colts through the first round of competition will be a great learning experience for everyone.”

Each competitor will select two 6666 Ranch colts from the Road to the Horse Remuda and will work with both colts in an extended Round 1 session. At the end of Round 1, competitors will then select their one colt of choice to advance to the following rounds.

“Allowing the competitors to draw two colts in the first round will let judges and fans watch a competitor modify their approach to suit the unique needs of each colt” states Road to the Horse Head Judge, Jeff Williams. “No two colts are the same and this format will allow each competitor’s adaptability to be showcased.”

The 2023 championship competitor lineup represents a unique blend of past Road to the Horse World Champions and top up-and-coming Wild Card competitors. Defending 2022 World Champion Mike Major and two-time World Champion Guy McLean will be joined by Wild Card Champions Cole Cameron and JR Robles.

Road to the Horse 2023 takes place at the Kentucky Horse Park on March 23-26. Tickets are available at www.RoadtotheHorse.com or by calling 800-514-3849. Follow Road to the Horse on Facebook for the latest information.
